A partnership that’s delivered:

  • VCHRGD secured as one of Ascent’s go-to charger brands for domestic work and key fleet contracts

  • Smoother install and commissioning journeys for engineers and customers

  • Fewer site visits thanks to proactive remote troubleshooting

  • Strong platform for future fleet and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) growth

The Opportunity: Scaling EV charging without compromise

As EV adoption accelerates across the UK, Ascent Energy Services has been at the forefront of helping homeowners, fleets and businesses transition to smarter, cleaner energy.

But as the market matured, one issue became clear: not all EV charger companies offered met the high bar of partnership demands they needed, which covered:

  • Competitively priced, without impacting quality

  • Aesthetically appealing, so customers love what’s on the side of their house

  • Installer-friendly, to reduce friction and avoid on-site headaches

  • Backed by real customer service, not a “sell it and forget it” mentality

  • Reliable, to minimise costly call-backs and protect Ascent’s hard-earned customer reputation

They weren’t just looking for another charger, they were looking for a trusted, long-term partner.

About Ascent Energy Services

Ascent Energy Services is an innovative electrical contracting company specialising in EV charging, solar installations and wider energy services. With a strong presence in both domestic and commercial markets, Ascent prides itself on professionalism, technical expertise and a commitment to cleaner energy.

That focus on quality and customer experience meant that any EV charging partner would need to be fully aligned with Ascent’s own standards, as well as being ready to scale with their business.

Discovering VCHRGD: Right product, right time

The relationship between Ascent and VCHRGD didn’t begin with a complex tender or a formal framework. It started with Ascent’s General Manager Chris Fitzpatrick keeping a close eye on new technologies and potential new partners entering the market. VCHRGD’s name started to crop up, and the team decided to take a closer look.

“We’ll have a look at the products and if we see one that looks good, has got the tech we need and the flexibility we need, then we’ll reach out… with VCHRGD, all of that just came together.”

1. Cost…and more

For Ascent, cost, quality and reliability matters, reflecting on the VCHRGD charger options.

“It’s a really competitively priced charger that’s got the right kind of aesthetic that we know customers like.”

Chris Fitzpatrick, General Manager

VCHRGD’s pricing allows Ascent to stay competitive in tendered work and consumer propositions, without having to resort to lesser-known or lower-quality hardware.

2. All about the aesthetics

In domestic installs, looks matter. If a homeowner doesn’t like the appearance of the charger, it can stall a sale.

VCHRGD’s sleek design quickly became a selling point in its own right:

“The look of the charger… we know customers like it. It’s the kind of product people are happy to have on the side of their house.”

Zaina Caton, Domestic EV Operations Manager

The newer Seven Pro has only strengthened that story, combining a more refined look with upgraded functionality.

For the team at Ascent, from day one on their VCHRGD due diligence, several things stood out:

  • Competitive price point

  • The right aesthetic with a charger customers would love to see on their property

  • A flexible mindset, ready to listen, engage and support installers and customers

It was clear that VCHRGD wasn’t just selling chargers; they were ready to work with Ascent’s team, take feedback onboard and work in partnership to deliver first-class installs.

Here’s how the VCHRGD solutions stood out…

3. Easy to install, easy to commission

For Ascent’s engineers, the VCHRGD units rapidly became a favourite.

“From an installer point of view, it’s a simple install… we used to hear about connection problems all the time with other brands, but not with VCHRGD.”

Zaina Caton

Key benefits for the install teams:

  • Simple, predictable installation process

  • Smooth app setup and easy commissioning

  • Minimal on-site troubleshooting

Less time spent wrestling with hardware or fumbling through apps means it makes it easy to quickly educate customers, and to complete more installs per day.

4. Proactive, preventative problem shooting

This is where Ascent cites real value in their VCHRGD partnership.

VCHRGD actively monitors chargers on its network, spotting and resolving many issues before the need for Ascent to get involved. For Ascent, that’s fewer call-outs, less time spent on tech support calls and happier customers

Zaina Caton from Ascent’s domestic team summed it up simply:

“If there ever is a problem with a VCHRGD charger, it’s resolved almost immediately… There's not a lot of time between the customer raising the problem and the problem being sorted. You can’t just sell a charger and move on – you want to make sure the customer has a fully functioning charger for as long as possible. VCHRGD understands that.”

Built to work for Ascent

A big part of the partnership’s success is that VCHRGD integrates into Ascent’s existing workflow. Jobs flow through Jumptech, Ascent’s preferred survey and job management system, with VCHRGD plugged in to pick up the installation baton.

By contrast, many larger manufacturers tend to lock contractors into their own portals and processes, which can unnecessarily slow the installation effort, VCHRGD’s approach is to align with Ascent.

Flexibility matters: From 4G fleets to branded solutions

VCHRGD’s partnership with Ascent has allowed the charge point provider to showcase its flexibility in real world projects.

Supporting 4G fleet requirements

When Ascent secured a fleet contract requiring 4G-enabled chargers, VCHRGD didn’t yet have a 4G unit fully in-market. A working solution was quickly tested and delivered:

  • Short term - sent interim hardware that could function as 4G

  • Long term - Put full 4G units into production to meet the requirement

Co-branded solutions for OEM launches

In the OEM space, Ascent recommended VCHRGD as the hardware partner for the launch of Omoda’s EVs in the UK.

Alongside providing reliable chargers VCHRGD worked with Ascent to produce branded front plates with the Omoda logo to elevate the customer experience

Both examples show the willingness to invest the time and care needed to create flexible, collaborative and commercially successful partnerships.

Tangible, long-term success

The benefits to Ascent are clear in their day-to-day operations:

  • Reduced install friction with fewer headaches on site and super smooth customer commissioning

  • Lower, virtually non-existent call-back rates thanks to reliable hardware and proactive remote support

  • Improved customer experience with rapid resolution of any issues and strong communication as and when required

  • A go-to recommendation, VCHRGD has become one of Ascent’s preferred charger partners for many contracts

“We like the charger. We like the team.”

Chris Fitzpatrick, General Manager

Looking ahead: Growing together to drive EV adoption

As EV uptake accelerates and new opportunities emerge in fleet, OEM, and workplace charging, Ascent and VCHRGD are well placed to grow together.

From Ascent’s side, VCHRGD is now:

  • An established, trusted hardware partner for new fleet and OEM discussions

  • A proven solution for both domestic installs and commercial use

  • A brand they are confident to put forward on future contracts

Final word to VCHRGD Commercial Director, Fraser Koefman:

“For VCHRGD, Ascent represents exactly the type of partner we want to work with. From their commitment to a cleaner, smarter energy future, to their recognition that customers want a combination of cost, support and style when it comes to their EV charger, they’re at the forefront of the energy solutions space, and they’ll remain a crucial part of the VCHRGRD story for a long time to come.”
