VCHRGD and Volta EV: A partnership built around EV charging

Formalising a fast-growing relationship with one of the UK’s leading specialist EV charging distributors

At VCHRGD, we’ve always believed strong partnerships are built on more than simply supplying products.

They’re built on shared values, aligned ambitions and a mutual understanding of the demands of the EV charging market.

That’s why we’re delighted to formally strengthen our partnership with Volta EV, one of the UK’s fastest-growing specialist EV charging distributors.

While we’ve been working together successfully for around 18 months, this marks the first formal partnership agreement between our businesses, reflecting the confidence both teams have in the relationship and where it can go next.

For us, this partnership feels particularly important because there’s genuine similarity in how both businesses have grown.

Volta EV was founded in 2020. VCHRGD followed in 2021.

Both businesses were built from the ground up by founders passionate about EV charging and determined to create something different in a rapidly evolving market.

And perhaps most importantly, both businesses have grown by focusing on the same things:

  • Customer service

  • Reliability

  • Technical understanding

  • Long-term relationships

  • Supporting installers properly

As the EV charging market matures, we believe those qualities matter more than ever.

Why Volta EV stood out to VCHRGD

One of the things that immediately appealed to us about Volta EV is their complete focus on EV charging.

Unlike many broader electrical distributors or renewable resellers, EV charging isn’t simply one category among many for the Volta team, it’s their entire business.

  • That specialist focus means they understand:

  • Which products installers trust

  • What makes projects run smoothly

  • How important reliability and support really are

  • The growing need for quality partnerships in the sector

  • From the beginning, it’s been a collaborative relationship.

Volta initially began by supplying VCHRGD chargers directly from our warehouse before quickly moving to holding its own stock as demand grew and installer feedback remained consistently strong.

That progression matters to us because it reflects genuine confidence in both the product and the wider partnership.

As Volta founder Chris Chevalier-Moniz explained during recent discussions:

We’re supporting brands that have got a grip on their supply chain and their sales channels. Those are the brands we’re focusing our time, effort and marketing on long term - and VCHRGD is fits that model perfectly.

Built around service, reliability and ease of doing business

At VCHRGD, we know installers want products that are straightforward to work with, fairly priced and properly supported.

That’s why it was encouraging to hear Volta consistently reference:

  • Strong installer feedback

  • Ease of installation

  • High reliability

  • Ease of doing business

  • Fair, commercially sensible pricing

Chris added:

“VCHRGD feedback has been really good. Reliability has been strong and the products are priced well in the market, not cheap rubbish, but properly made products at a fair price.”

That aligns closely with how we’ve approached growth since launching VCHRGD.

Rather than chasing volume at any cost, we’ve focused on building reliable, installer-friendly charging solutions backed by responsive UK technical support and long-term partner relationships.

Alongside our recent integration with Octopus Energy and collaboration with So Energy, partnerships like this help strengthen a wider ecosystem around smarter, more accessible EV charging.

Two founder-led businesses growing together

One of the most enjoyable parts of this partnership has been discovering just how similar the journeys of both businesses have been.

Chris's story in particular is fantastic. He started Volta EV from his flat in 2020 after spotting the growth potential of EV charging and enlisted his Nan and her 3-bed house as his stockroom before scaling the business enough to warrant a warehouse.

From handling stock in spare bedrooms to growing into the dedicated Birmingham warehouse operation that enabled supply to installers and wholesalers nationwide, Volta’s growth story reflects the entrepreneurial spirit driving much of the EV charging sector.

At VCHRGD, our own journey has followed a similar path.

Founded in 2021 by Alex Watson, VCHRGD was built around a desire to create EV charging products that combined strong design, reliability and exceptional support.

Today, while both businesses have grown significantly, the founder-led mentality remains the same:

For Alex, that shared mindset is what makes the relationship work.

“Volta’s focus on EV charging is exactly what makes this partnership so appealing. They understand the products, the installers and the market.

We have a lot in common as founder-led businesses that have grown through service, reputation and technical understanding. Formalising the partnership feels like a natural next step and gives both teams a strong platform to grow together.”

Looking ahead…

The EV charging market is continuing to evolve quickly.

Installers, wholesalers and end customers increasingly want confidence that the products they choose are reliable, well-supported and backed by businesses that genuinely understand the sector.

For us, partnerships like this are a major part of that future.

Over the coming months, VCHRGD and Volta EV will work together to support installers and customers with reliable charging solutions designed to make EV adoption simpler, smarter and more accessible.

We’re excited about what comes next.
